Gene Stevens was born in Chicago Illinois in 1959, his original name was Eugene Curtis Stawinski. He was named after the Doctor who delivered him C-section, Dr. Curtis Bowman at Bethany Hospital on July 30th 1959.

He grew up in Chicago, and his mother passed away in 1965 when he was six years old. He was raised by his father and joined the US Navy in 1978. He completed basic training at Great Lakes Naval base in North Chicago Illinois. He was sent to Signalman A school, at San Diego California Naval Training Center. After completing Signalman A- school , he was assigned to the USS Wichita AOR-1. During his time on board the Wichita, he deployed to the Western Pacific in 1980 and was deployed on GONZO (Gulf of Oman Zone of Operations) for 109 days during the Iran Hostage Crisis. He also assisted with the rescue of Vietnamese refugees fleeing Vietnam in the South China Sea.

He separated from Naval Service in 1982 and returned to Illinois. In 1983, he reentered service in the US Naval Reserves and was assigned to Naval Control of Shipping unit #413.  In 1984 he transferred into the Illinois National Guard at the rank of Sergeant with the 133rd Signal Battalion based out of Chicago.  In 1983 he also entered the law enforcement field and served with multiple agencies, including the Rosemont Illinois Police Dept as an Auxiliary Public Safety Officer and the Arlington Heights Illinois Police Department as a Community Service Officer. In 1987 he was hired by the Fox River Grove Police Dept. as a Patrol Officer and attended the Chicago Police Academy (Metro suburban class) and graduated in 1988.  In 1993 he accepted a position with the Spring Grove Illinois Police Department as a Patrol Officer, he also served the Spring Grove Police Department as a Juvenile Officer, D.A.R.E. Officer, and Operation Lifesaver Presenter for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was also assigned to the Illinois State Police North Central Narcotics Task Force. 

 In 1998, Gene accepted a position with Monsanto Corporation in Skokie Illinois and was assigned to Searle research facility and served as a Security Supervisor and Regional Training Coordinator. In 2003, he accepted a job with the newly formed Transportation Security Officer as a Screening Officer and Explosive Trace Detection Technician. In 2007, he returned to service with the Army National as a Sergeant with the 933rd Military Police Unit, attended Military Police Training at Camp Lincoln in Springfield Illinois, and field operations training at Marseilles Illinois. In 2008 Gene was assigned to Task Force Grant at Fort Chaffee Arkansas in support of the Illinois 33rd Infantry Brigade Afghanistan deployment.  In 2009 He accepted a position with PSC Security as an Assistant Security Director for Louis Joliet Mall, In Joliet Illinois. In 2013 Gene worked for the security dept. at Loyola Academy in Wilmette Illinois, and later worked for the Deerfield Highschool security dept. in 2015 he also worked as part time Police Officer for the Island Lake Illinois Police Dept. In 2018, he relocated to DesMoines Iowa where he worked as Security Officer for Nationwide Insurance and Wells Fargo financial company.  Gene is now the sole owner of a Private Investigative Company in the DesMoines Iowa region

Gene is a genealogist credited with the revealing his mothers connection to the American experience back to their home country in Ireland and Nazing England, and is he the descendant of the Curtis family who settled in Illinois in 1832-1833. He was a living historian for over ten years, reenacting multiple time periods from the revolutionary war to World War two. He has written many articles on history, politics and current issues.  He wrote and self published the books; Red Flag of Defiance, which was about the first battle of the Black Hawk War of 1831-1832. The Battle for Apple River Fort, A Fiendish Crime, the story of the first train robbery in the west and the semi-fictional Ten Eycke Chronicles, Return to Tombstone. He is an avid researcher and traveler, having visited many historic places throughout the United States, and he and his wife were wedded in Tombstone Arizona in Cochise County Arizona in 2017.


Gene was awarded with the Navy Battle E, Humanitarian service medal, Armed Force Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Sea Service Deployment and the Army Service ribbon, He has also received numerous awards and commendations from multiple employers.
