Howdy Pilgrims! I was really excited after I went to my mailbox today, and found out that the pony express had delivered some mail to me from an old pard of mine, John Wayne. Ok... So it wasn't from the pony express and John Wayne isn't really an "old pard" of mine, and the mail was actually from the John Wayne Birthplace Museum. But with that said, John Wayne was a big part of my childhood. I actually saw his movies on the big silver screen, and that means a lot to me. The really exciting part for me is that I live in Iowa and this is where John Wayne was born, in Winterset Iowa. And... Winterset is the home of the John Wayne Birthplace Museum. In my opinion, the museum there is the best museum in Iowa, and I have also frequently referred to Iowa as the doorstep to the American West.
THE 2025 CELEBRATION
2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the John Wayne Birthplace Museum. The idea hit the dusty trail in 2007, and took some time to get the train station. But the museum was born. The John Wayne Birthplace Museum, depends upon the generous donations of its loyal supporters. In fact, donors accounted for 80% their funding. It's with that in mind, that I am planning on becoming a member and donor.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
The 2025 celebration takes place on May 23 & 24, 2025, plans are still underway, but special guests include Barry Corbin and Riders in the Sky. You can read all about it in the flyer that I posted below. If any of our readers want more information, you can also call the museum at (515) 462-1044, or check out the website at www.johnwaynebirthplace.museum
See you on the dusty trail!
