THE SILVER ENGINE!

​The Grant Locomotive Works, of Paterson, New Jersey, built a locomotive, shipped it across the Atlantic, reassembled it within the vast concourse of Transportation Hall, called it "America," This engine returned to American and became the show piece of the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad in 1869. It toured the United Staes between the Great Lajes and the Missouri River. The story was adapted from the book "Great Rock Island Route" The Spirit of Romance the Spirit of Enterprise
